       What is Structured Word Inquiry?

Structured Word Inquiry is a comprehensive approach to literacy using multi-sensory teaching techniques for instruction in reading, writing, and spelling.

THE PROCESS

Morphology (the structure and sequencing of Orthography) drives

Scientific Inquiry (known as the 4 Questions) of

Orthography (human thought made visible through text), and

Etymology (Semantics or Meaning of a word). This framework or structure provides us with Phonology (Pronunciations of Orthography) and allows Comprehension.

STRUCTURED WORD INQUIRY IS FOR:

  • Individuals who have struggled with previous dyslexia interventions, for example, not retaining knowledge of "sight" words (also named "high frequency", "irregular", or "red" words)

  • Exploration of deeper meanings within orthography, which leads to greater comprehension

  • Individuals age 4 and up

  • Individual or Small groups of similar age and ability
